Dr. Paul Yonga

Dr. Paul Yonga is an infectious disease and tropical/travel medicine specialist, as well as a clinical epidemiologist. He works at the Fountain Health Care Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya where he heads the Fountain Tropical/Travel Medicine and Infectious Diseases Centre (FOTROMID) and the Fountain Projects and Research Office (FOPRO). He also established the CA Medlynks Tropical/Travel Medicine & Infectious Diseases Clinic in Nairobi.

Paul completed his MBChB in 2012 at the Kampala International University in Uganda. He also has an MRCP in internal medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Edinburgh and a MSPH specializing in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium.

Dr. Yonga received the the 2018 Brian Chapman medal in geriatric medicine from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He is also the recipient of the 2019 IDSA Guerrant International Investigator Award for research excellence in infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. His clinical and research interests include infectious diseases and tropical medicine, travel medicine, and HIV.

Dr. Walaa Shabana

Dr. Walaa Shabana is an Associate Professor of Tropical Medicine at Mansoura University in Egypt.

She received her medical degree and Master degree of Tropical Medicine at Mansoura University followed by her PhD in Tropical Medicine at Alazhar University in 2011. Dr. Shabana completed her residency and post doctoral training in Tropical Medicine at the Mansoura University Hospitals.

She is assistant coordinator of post-graduate courses in the Tropical Medicine Department, Mansoura University.  She has a special interest and has published many publications in infectious diseases and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Dr. Shabana is a Founding member of Egyptian Travel Medicine Group and a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine.

Dr. Steven Miller

Dr. Steven Miller is a consultant in clinical microbiology and infectious disease in private practice in Johannesburg and a microbiologist at Lancet Laboratories.

 

Following a period of postgraduate training overseas in cardiothoracic surgery, he returned to Johannesburg and joined the South African Institute for Medical Research where he qualified as a clinical microbiologist. He was appointed associate professor of clinical microbiology in 1989, shortly before he entered private practice.

 

His involvement in HIV medicine and research dates back to 1984 when he helped to establish the HIV Clinic at the Johannesburg Hospital. He has been principal investigator of several international collaborative clinical trials and is actively involved in clinical research.

 

He is an executive committee member of the South African Society of Travel Medicine.

Dr. Charles Tarimo

Dr. Charles Tarimo is a medical doctor at the IST Clinic in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. He graduated from Hubert Karuki Memorial University in 2014 and completed his internship at the Bugando Medical Centre in the Lake Zone of Tanzania, and furthered his career at Central Tanzania, Christian Medical Centre before moving back to Dar-es-Salaam in 2018.

 

He is part of the board of the Pan African Travel Medicine Federation, a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and the South African Society of Travel Medicine. He is a certified Travel medicine practitioner (SASTM Travel Medicine Course, 2022), boasting a certificate of Aviation Medicine by the South Africa Civil Aviation Authority and Occupational Health as an offshore energies UK examiner.

Dr. Simbarashe Makuni

Dr. Simbarashe Makuni is a medical doctor and entrepreneur who has founded several businesses in the healthcare sector in Zimbabwe including Belvedere Medical Centre which offers services ranging from basic medical and travel consultations to hospitalization.

 

Dr. Makuni also founded an insurance company, Savelife Medical aid, which offers medical insurance services in Zimbabwe. He is the founder and current chairperson of the Travel Medicine Association of Zimbabwe. Dr Makuni has received several awards including the Zimbabwean Investment Authority SME Investor of the year 2nd runner up (October 2015 + 2016 awards); Chartered Institute of Project Managers in Zimbabwe Mega Project Management award in 2016 (SME category); MEGAFEST Director of the Year 1st runner up for 2018 and Award of Excellence for 2018 Winner; and the Service Excellence Award in the Health Sector for 2020 1st runner up from the Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe.

Dr. Patrick Chukwumah

Dr. Patrick Chukwumah is a medical doctor and holds an MBA from the International Graduate School of Management from the University of Navarra in Spain.

 

He is currently the Chief Operating Officer at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. From 2013-2021, he was the Global Health Manager for Heineken International based in Amsterdam, Netherlands where he supported expatriate employees and families with health-related services, including facilitating emergency medical services, occupational health, and travel medical services. He received a Certificate of Competence in Travel Medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand sponsored by the South African Society of Travel Medicine in 2018. Patrick is the pioneer Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine.
