While nationals from many countries may be able to get a Visa upon arrival, it is highly recommended to apply for a Visa online through the official Immigration Services Department eVisa portal.

Nationals travelling with a passport from the following countries do not need a Visa:

Botswana, Burundi, DRC, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, Zamiba, Zimbabwe.

Nationals travelling with a passport from the following countries must apply for a Referral Visa:

Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Eritrea, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, Sierra Leone.

Please ensure that the Visa is approved prior to booking flights or accommodation. It is highly recommended that Visa applications are made at least two months before the date of travel.

Travel insurance requirement for Zanzibar
All travellers (except nationals) visiting Zanzibar must purchase mandatory Inbound travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation for the duration of their stay. This coverage can only be purchased from ZIC; other international travel insurance policies will not be accepted.
