Please read the guidelines below for information on documentation and fees required to apply for a Visa.
While nationals from many countries may be able to get a Visa upon arrival, it is highly recommended to apply for a Visa online through the official Immigration Services Department eVisa portal.
Visa requirements

Nationals travelling with a passport from the following countries do not need a Visa:

Botswana, Burundi, DRC, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, Zamiba, Zimbabwe.

Nationals travelling with a passport from the following countries must apply for a Referral Visa:

Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Eritrea, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, Sierra Leone.

Please ensure that the Visa is approved prior to booking flights or accommodation. It is highly recommended that Visa applications are made at least two months before the date of travel.

Travel insurance requirements for Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar
All travellers (except nationals, diplomats, transit passengers and residents of EAC or SADC Partner States) visiting Mainland Tanzania must purchase mandatory Inbound travel insurance from the National Insurance Corporation. This mandatory insurance is separate from any existing comprehensive travel insurance held by the traveller.

Arriving in Mainland Tanzania first: Applicable visitors should obtain NIC Inbound Travel Insurance. If travelling onward to Zanzibar, a separate ZIC insurance policy is not required. Keep a copy of the NIC insurance certificate available for verification.

Arriving in Zanzibar first: Guests who already have valid ZIC Inbound Travel Insurance do not need to purchase NIC Mainland Tanzania insurance again. Keep a copy of the ZIC insurance certificate available for verification.
Likewise, all travellers (except nationals) visiting Zanzibar must purchase mandatory Inbound travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation for the duration of their stay. This coverage can only be purchased from ZIC; other international travel insurance policies will not be accepted.
